Are Union Heads in the 99%? Or the 1%?

Here's a good question.

Are the head honcho's of unions in the so-called 99% like they convey to rank and file members?

Or are the head honcho's in the 1%?

I recently researched a few of the head honcho's of teaching unions here in NYC and came up with some interesting salary facts.

As an individual member of a union, many rank and file receive emails from on HIGH urging them to partake in various "protests", "marches", "solidarity associations" etc. etc. The idea being that the UNION HEADS are suffering the same economic hardship as the rank and file.

NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH!

Take a typical New York City college adjunct union affiliated to the NYSUT and AFT, PSC-CUNY.

According to AUDITED FINANCIAL STATEMENTS: In 2009 total union dues were $11.4 million, while 2010 were slightly higher at $12.4and from these numbers SALARIES for the head honchos in 2009 were $2.2 million and had risen to $2.6 million in 2010. Added to these were FRINGE BENEFITS of over $929,000 and $1.2 million respectively.

These salaries and fringe benefits are not broken down according to who gets what at the executive level. Suffice to say, the rank and file are getting a basic salary of between $40,000 to $60,000 WITHOUT FRINGE BENEFITS, while the head honchos are getting several times this number!

Hacking Down Distractions (H-D-D) is PRO UNION but questions the motives of the head honchos and their extra-curricular political shenanigans while they issue stern diktats to their puny rank and file MINIONS!

H-D-D will investigate this disingenuous use of rank and file dues in the coming weeks.

Until then, those at the top of unions, despite what they broadcast in public, are part of the 1% and NOT THE 99%.
